About Rose Bud

Whole dried rose buds for brewing

Whole dried rose buds

These are whole rose buds, picked before they open and dried. Brewed on their own they make a pale pink, lightly scented cup with a soft, faintly sweet taste and no caffeine. Three or four buds in a glass pot look lovely as they open.

Brew one to two teaspoons, or a small handful of buds, at about 90°C for four minutes. Rose is delicate, so do not use boiling water. It needs no sweetener.

Rose buds are also the most useful blending flower in the range. A few added to hibiscus, chamomile, green tea or Beauty Blend give scent and colour without changing how the tea brews. They are one of the three single flowers in our Garden collection.

Questions about Rose Bud

Brewing, caffeine, taste and pack size. For more, read the brewing guide or ask Petal, our tea guide, in the corner of the page.

Does rose bud tea have caffeine?

No. Rose buds are a flower with no caffeine, so rose tea suits any time of day, including bedtime.

How do I brew rose bud tea?

One to two teaspoons of buds per cup at about 90°C, steeped for four minutes. Avoid boiling water, which flattens the scent. They can also be added to any other tea.

What does it taste like?

Light, floral and faintly sweet, with the rose coming through as aroma more than flavour. The cup is a pale pink.

What can I blend rose buds with?

Almost anything. Two parts hibiscus to one part rose is a classic; rose also lifts chamomile, green tea and our Beauty Blend. You can pick rose buds as one of the three teas in Build Your Own Blend.
