About Spearmint Tea

Dried spearmint leaves brewing in a clear glass cup

Dried spearmint leaves, cool and naturally sweet

Spearmint is the gentler of the two mints. Where peppermint is sharp and menthol-heavy, spearmint is softer, sweeter and rounder, which is why it is the mint used in Moroccan tea. Ours is dried spearmint leaves from Nepal, with nothing added.

It is caffeine-free and brews a pale green cup. Use one to two teaspoons per cup of boiling water and steep for three to five minutes. It needs no sweetener, though a spoon of honey suits it, and it is a good tea to drink after a meal.

Spearmint is also a useful blending leaf. A pinch lifts chamomile, hibiscus or a green tea, and it makes an excellent iced tea on its own with a squeeze of lime.

Questions about Spearmint Tea

Brewing, caffeine, taste and pack size. For more, read the brewing guide or ask Petal, our tea guide, in the corner of the page.

Is spearmint tea caffeine-free?

Yes. Spearmint is a herb, not a tea leaf, so there is no caffeine in it. Ours is dried spearmint leaves only.

What is the difference between spearmint and peppermint tea?

Spearmint is milder and sweeter, with much less menthol. Peppermint is sharper and more cooling. If you find peppermint tea too strong, spearmint is usually the one you want.

How do I brew spearmint tea?

One to two teaspoons of leaves per cup of boiling water, steeped for three to five minutes. For iced spearmint tea, brew it strong, chill it and add a squeeze of lime.

What size pack is it?

Spearmint Tea comes in a 40g pouch or a 35g box. At about two grams per cup the pouch makes around 20 cups. It is also available as a free 10g sample.
